River Cruising - along the Danube

A brief visit to sample one of the smallest river vessels of the Peter Deilmann fleet, the MV Casanova, on a 2 day voyage between Passau and Vienna along the Danube, was an unforgettable experience, and a different way of spending a November weekend!

It was just a shortish drive (1 ¾ hours) from Munich airport to the attractive cobbled town of Passau where this elegant 5 star 48 cabin river boat was moored. Passau is situated at the confluence of the Blue Danube, the Inn and the Ilz, and sets the tone for an enjoyable meander through the Austrian countryside. The boat took us to Melk and Durnstein a delightful little town, in whose castle Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned; from here we also visited a local vineyard for a sample of its delicious Riesling wines. Whilst cruising along the river there were glimpses of many mediaeval castles and monasteries looking wonderful in the Autumnal colours. We passed through numerous locks (many with drops of at least 50 feet) before finally reaching the historic City of Vienna; all this at the same time as being entertained, wined and dined by this hospitable German River Boat Cruise Company.

Peter Deilmann now operates 9 river vessels throughout Europe as well as the celebrated ocean going MV Deutschland, which carries 513 passengers on a varied worldwide programme of ocean cruises around the Mediterranean, The Baltic, Indian Ocean, Caribbean and the British Isles.

With a reputation for very high levels of personal service, efficiency, fine dining, entertainment (some dedicated music cruises), elegant cabins and public areas, interesting shore excursions and above all fascinating river and ocean itineraries, this programme is a highly recommended and civilised way of enjoying Europe and the world in comfort and style, without all the effort and worry of packing and moving on.
