Cruising for Golfers

I am one of those lucky fellas – my wife enjoys playing golf, which means she doesn’t mind me playing as well: the truth is that she is better than me anyway and really I should just carry her bag!

So, although, our holidays do not have to include golf, when it comes to that question “Where shall we go on holiday this year?” golf often falls into the equation.

Earlier this year I found a perfect answer. With my cruising background I knew that Fred Olsen offer a series of cruises which incorporate their Flagship Golf Programme: these can be in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Baltic or Canary Islands. It wasn’t a difficult choice since we wanted to travel in February so the Caribbean was just perfect.

The bottom line is is that the Flagship Golf Programme is ideal for golfers of all standards and perfect for couples who enjoy playing golf together. The numbers are restricted to just 24 guests on any one cruise and so you immediately feel part of a small and friendly club. You pay an extra £400 per person we received the following benefits:

Our group on board were a jolly bunch and everyone got on famously. The courses in all honesty were of mixed quality, nevertheless just to play the Marriott course on St Kitts was one of life’s treats and for ever memorable.

We sailed on the Braemar which is a very unpretentious ship, pleasantly comfortable and spacious without being luxurious. The catering was of an exceptionally high standard and the friendly, mainly Filipino, crew were a delight.

For a different style of golf holiday, my wife Judy and I, would highly recommend the Fred Olsen Flagship Golf Programme – also available on their other ships Black Watch and Boudicca. I am sure we will be back.
